dMAT Test-Day Rules, Breaks and Instructions

dMAT is taken digitally at an authorised test centre, but strict physical test-room rules still apply. The most important preparation habit is to practise without notes or helping tools. Your identity document is the only item allowed on the desk during the examination.

Train without scratch paper so your practice method matches the official no-notes rule.

Before you enter the room

  • Bring the identity document required by your booking instructions.
  • Obtain food for the day before the examination begins; you may not leave the examination building during the appointment.
  • Switch off phones and every other electronic device completely.
  • Follow the test centre’s storage directions for bags and personal belongings.
  • Arrive with enough time for identity checks, seating and instructions.

What is prohibited

The current special terms prohibit phones, tablets, MP3 players, wristwatches and smartwatches, fitness watches, calculators and other electronic devices. Notice paper is also a prohibited aid in the digital test. During the examination, only your identity document may remain on the desk.

A ringing phone can end your test

The official terms state that a ringing phone, messaging or calling during the examination or break can lead to exclusion. Switching to silent is not enough—turn devices off and store them as directed.

No notes means no scratch work

The official preparatory materials repeatedly state that notes may not be taken throughout the exam. Train Figure Sequences with short verbal rules, equations through compact substitution and Latin Squares through missing-set elimination. Do not build a preparation method that depends on paper.

Break and movement rules

  • Once assigned a seat, you may not leave the exam room until the end of the test module except in exceptional supervised circumstances.
  • Lavatory use is tied to the break specified by the test centre.
  • Missed examination time cannot be made up.
  • You may not visit a cafeteria or canteen during breaks.
  • Smoking breaks are at the test centre’s discretion and, if allowed, require supervision.
  • Return on time; identity may be checked again and seats may be reassigned.

Conduct, technical issues and confidentiality

  • Follow all test-administrator instructions.
  • Do not use aids, copy answers or consult notes during breaks.
  • Attend every part; missing a part is treated as aborting the examination.
  • Do not record, reproduce or discuss test content after the exam.
  • Report a technical issue immediately to the invigilator rather than trying to fix equipment yourself.
  • A written service or fairness complaint must be submitted to the g.a.s.t. Examination Board within five working days.
