Bachelors

BA in Social Work (transnational)

Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg

Würzburg, Germany

Program Overview

The aim of the transnational Bachelor’s degree programme in Social Work (transnational) is to enable students to act independently and professionally in the various practical fields of social work. This is done based on scientific findings and scientific methods in a national and transnational context, that connects the Arab/ Jordanian with the European/ German region. The course is supported as a transnational educational project with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) via the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) offers the transnational Bachelor’s degree programme in Social Work in collaboration with, and starting at the German Jordanian University (GJU) in Amman, Jordan. The course is intended to impart professional, social and personal skills. These should make it possible to record, describe, analyse and explain social problems in geographical, cultural and linguistic contexts as well as develop action plans from them, put them into practice and check their effectiveness. Graduates of the Social Work (transnational) degree programme automatically receive state recognition as social work pedagogues in Germany. The degree programme is also accredited in Jordan. Graduates of the Bachelor's degree programme in Social Work will have a sound understanding of social work principles, attitudes, methods and interventions. They will have a profound understanding of related disciplines like health, psychology, pedagogics, law and sociology as part of their study programme. The THWS programme is renowned in the German community for its focus on behaviour-oriented, evidence based social work, thus connecting it to the Anglo-Saxon traditions of social work. Qualitative and quantitative research methods including statistics, a research seminar, term papers, and finally, the Bachelor's thesis will guarantee that graduates are actually prepared to make a real difference in the lives of their service receivers. The students graduate with a German university degree, which facilitates a potential continued residency in Germany for an initial period of one and a half years to seek employment and to organise an entry into a career as social workers.
