Micro- and Nanoelectronics

The Micro- and Nanoelectronics (MSc) degree programme targets physicists and electrical engineers who wish to pursue careers in the semiconductor industry and research. Designed for those with prior studies in solid-state physics and/or electronics at the Bachelor's level, this programme expands and deepens knowledge of semiconductor physics, technology, and components as well as integrated circuit design across various technologies. It also covers assembly and integration technology, along with application areas such as communication, radar, and sensor technology. The Micro- and Nanoelectronics degree programme prepares graduates for jobs in the semiconductor industry, either in the research and development of innovative semiconductor technologies and components or in the design of innovative integrated circuits. For both career goals, the Micro- and Nanoelectronics (MSc) degree programme will not only impart specialised knowledge but also provide a solid foundation in semiconductor physics and electronics, while introducing students to selected application scenarios. Leading semiconductor research institutes in Germany – the Leibniz Institute for Innovative Microelectronics (IHP), the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH), the Fraunhofer Institute for Microintegration and Reliability (FhG-IZM), and the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems (FhG-IMPS) – are actively engaged in teaching and also provide opportunities for students to complete the research module or Master's thesis within their facilities.
