Master of Science in Mathematics
Technical University of Darmstadt
Program Overview
The MSc Mathematics Master's programme is an English-taught course of study. The standard period of study is four semesters (two years). The study programme contains four different fields of study: Mathematics Business Mathematics Data Science Interdisciplinary Mathematics It is mandatory to choose one field of study when applying, minding the respective requirements. Mathematics field of study: It is compulsory to choose two advanced courses with one specialisation, each out of the following seven research fields: Algebra Analysis Logic Numerical Analysis Optimisation Applied Geometry Stochastics In the elective part of the programme, you will either choose a minor from the TU Darmstadt course catalogue or select further mathematical courses on the Master's level. Business Mathematics field of study: In this study field, you will choose one mathematical specialisation: Optimisation or Stochastics Your second specialisation will be from the field of economics. Your mandatory minor subject will be Information Management. In the elective part of this programme, you select courses from the mathematical area that are not within your chosen specialisation. Data Science field of study: In this study field, you will specialise in two mathematical areas focussing on data topics: Analysis Numerical Analysis Optimisation Stochastics The mandatory minor subject in this field of study is Advanced Computer Science. Extensive prior knowledge is necessary. Interdisciplinary Mathematics field of study: This interdisciplinary study field will give you the opportunity to focus on a second subject alongside mathematics. You will choose one mathematical specialisation: Algebra Analysis Logic Numerical Analysis Optimisation Applied Geometry Stochastics The second, interdisciplinary specialisation is a non-mathematical subject, such as Computer Science, Physics, or Mechanical Engineering. The mandatory minor is typically chosen based on the non-mathematical specialisation but may also vary. Interdisciplinary courses as well as the “Studium generale” are also part of the programme. These parts are designed to provide the opportunity for students to participate in internships or courses that are not mathematical. Successfully completing the Master's programme in Mathematics at the Technical University of Darmstadt will qualify you to: classify recent research present and reflect mathematical issues systematically solve mathematical problems apply gained expertise of other disciplines and use them in scientific discourse
