Program Overview

Nowadays, companies are increasingly demanding interdisciplinary and intercultural knowledge from their employees in order to be able to operate successfully in the so-called VUCA world. Universities are responding to this demand with interdisciplinary degree programmes. The university of Zwickau is also responding in this manner, with creating this double degree Master’s programme connecting the fields of management, business information systems, and applied computer science. However, managers and IT specialists need to connect their subjects to become valuable experts for an organisation with their broad understanding of business processes and interdisciplinary thinking. Therefore, managers need to acquire and practice IT skills, such as programming or understanding ERP systems. Furthermore, computer scientists need to enhance their business and managerial skills to enhance the profitability of the company and develop market-relevant solutions. In this context, the "Management and Information Technology" course of study is offered as a double degree programme by an international consortium between the University of Zwickau and foreign partner universities, currently: the International Black Sea University (IBSU), Tbilisi, Georgia; Kazakh-American Free University (KAFU), Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan; Armenian State University of Economics (ASUE), Yerevan, Armenia; the Kyrgyz-German Institute of Applied Informatics (INAI. kg), Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan . Therefore, students will achieve a double degree from Zwickau University and one international partner university of the consortium. It is mandatory for all students to study at least one semester abroad at an international partner university of the consortium. The composition of the consortium with partners from the Central Asian and Caucasus region came about due to the excellent and long-lasting existing relations of the University of Zwickau with these foreign universities. On the other hand, the partner countries will gain economic relevance and attractiveness for European companies, primarily through the "New Silk Road" project. However, double degree programmes between European and Central Asian universities are still rare, so WHZ is playing a pioneering role. Furthermore, as a dynamic and forward-thinking institution, we are committed to the continuous expansion of our network of partner universities and countries. The programme is specially designed for students who enjoy travelling and discovering new languages and cultures, and thus have intercultural competencies and aspire an international career after their studies. It is specially intended to inspire people who, after graduation, want to work as managers, entrepreneurs, IT managers, software engineers, business analysts and project managers in national and international companies. Furthermore, it is possible to earn a doctorate with the degree, which for example can be done in cooperation with the partner universities. The development and establishment of the course of study were funded by the DAAD in the framework of the HAW.International programme.
