Life Science Informatics

Life Science Informatics involves the computational processing and analysis of next generation sequencing data that is created by sequencing the genetic material of humans, animals or plants. Through this necessary procedure, biomedical research can identify and analyse genes that are predictive for the prognosis or response to therapy for a disease (personalised medicine and molecular diagnostics). The analysis and evaluation of this data requires knowledge of medical and scientific basics in combination with application-oriented computer science. The challenge of evaluating next generation sequencing data is to understand the function, regulation and interaction of genes. The bioinformatic skills are taught in practical application throughout the Master's programme.
