The Munich Intellectual Property Law Center's (MIPLC) Master of Laws programme offers a unique and innovative international and interdisciplinary approach to intellectual property (IP) and competition law. It aims to educate the next generation of experts working at the intersection of law, markets, and emerging technologies. The programme’s modularised curriculum is both innovative and comprehensive, combining education in the fields of law that shape an innovation-driven economy with the exploration of cutting-edge legal developments and policy issues from diverse perspectives. Its in-depth coverage of all relevant areas of law, with a particular emphasis on their interactions, sets it apart globally. Through a broad range of advanced courses, students can specialise in areas such as patent, copyright, trade mark, competition law, data protection law, digital platform regulation, artificial intelligence, life sciences regulation, and more. MIPLC, a collaboration between the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition (MPI), the University of Augsburg, the Technical University of Munich, and the George Washington University Law School, provides high-quality university education from an international perspective, with particular emphasis on EU and US law. Teaching takes place at the MPI in Munich, the IP capital of Europe, with its outstanding library and unrivalled community of legal scholars and economists dedicated to independent research on the incentives, determinants, and implications of innovation. The programme covers both civil law and common law jurisdictions, preparing graduates to operate effectively in any legal environment.

Requirements

Academic Admission

A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) is required. While most of our students hold a previous degree in law, natural sciences, engineering, or management, we also welcome students from other disciplines. If the Bachelor's programme was not a four-year programme (240 ECTS credits or equivalent), but a three-year programme (180 ECTS credits or equivalent), an applicant may be admitted if he or she has gained an additional year of professional experience (two years in total). Applicants need to have acquired at least one year (self-financing students) or two years (applicants for a DAAD scholarship) of professional experience after their first university degree. This means that work done during undergraduate studies (before obtaining the Bachelor's degree) does not count. Apart from actual employment in a paid position, professional experience also includes internships, work as a research assistant (postgraduate), and work during a legal clerkship. Applicants must have a very good knowledge of English (see language requirements: https://www.miplc.de/llm-ip/admissions/requirements/ ). Applicants to the DAAD EPOS must also comply with DAAD requirements. Please refer to the DAAD website for more information.
