Program Overview

The Faculty of Law is offering a Master’s degree programme that focuses explicitly on German law in the German language for law graduates who obtained their degrees abroad. This degree programme is spread over two semesters, and it allows students to study German law and its methods through individual specialisation and comparative law elements. The Master of Laws in German Law (LLM) degree programme is aimed at lawyers who already have completed a Bachelor's or Master’s degree with at least 240 ECTS credits in another jurisdiction. The degree programme consists of three study phases. The first phase consists of compulsory introductory modules (10 ECTS). In the second phase, students must successfully complete a required elective area (35 ECTS credits) chosen from five areas of concentration (Civil Law, Labour and Social Law, Commercial Law, Public Law or Criminal Law). The Master’s thesis (15 ECTS credits) is completed in the third phase.

Academic Admission

Applicants must meet the following requirements: have an undergraduate law degree with at least 240 ECTS credits from a foreign university be able to prove sufficient proficiency in the German language to participate in the course and pass the required examinations have demonstrated a high level of academic performance in the previous degree so that successful completion of the LLM programme can be expected

An APS certificate is required for applicants who have completed their qualifying education in India, China, or Vietnam.
