Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research

Bad Nauheim, Germany

Program Overview

IMPRS-MOB has established excellent training opportunities for enthusiastic young researchers who want to tackle future scientific challenges in the field of molecular, cellular and organ biology. Research is at the core of this doctoral programme. The thesis research will be carried out under the direct supervision of one member of the IMPRS faculty. Our IMPRS-MOB faculty is based in the following three scientific hotspots of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences-Main region: Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research, Justus Liebig University Giessen and Goethe University Frankfurt. Doctoral fellows will participate in a three-year professional structured programme , including specialised seminars, methods courses and engaging retreats. We provide exclusive access to the cutting-edge resources of the Max Planck Institute and our partner institutions, including the Cardio Pulmonary Institute, Goethe University Frankfurt and JLU Giessen. Doctoral fellows will benefit from personalised guidance and robust support from their dedicated thesis advisory committee. Our mission is to empower our PhD candidates with knowledge, skills and mentorship not just during their doctoral studies but also as they advance beyond, paving the path to become leaders in their scientific fields.

Salary Outlook

Typical range

The stated annual salary (e.g., TV-L E13: €50,000–€65,000 for 100%) refers to a full-time position. In practice, many universities and public research institutes (such as Leibniz institutes) offer part-time contracts, commonly 50%, 65%, or 75%, and only occasionally 100%. The actual salary is therefore proportional to the contract percentage. Applicants are strongly advised to clarify the employment percentage before accepting an offer.

Fresher, mid-level, and experienced ranges are linked to external sources so they stay auditable for applicants.
