Informatics (Computer Science)
Technical University of Munich
Program Overview
Integrated research and degree programmes designed for the future: The TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology (CIT) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) unites the disciplines of Mathematics, Informatics, and Electrical and Computer Engineering . Our research and teaching activities range from theoretical knowledge to its application, focussing across disciplines on the major challenges of our time, such as the digital transformation. At the same time, our expertise remains firmly embedded in our core disciplines. The Master’s in Informatics is a research-oriented degree that builds on the fundamentals of computer science you have acquired during your undergraduate studies. The programme offers a large variety of courses and allows students to focus their studies on their preferred areas. They can specialise by choosing up to three of these areas: Algorithms Computer Graphics and Vision Databases and Information Systems Digital Biology and Digital Medicine Engineering Software-Intensive Systems Formal Methods and their Applications Machine Learning and Analytics Computer Architecture Computer Networks and Distributed Systems Robotics Security and Privacy Scientific Computing and High Performance Computing Additionally, the curriculum covers an interdisciplinary project (in Mathematics, Medicine, Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering) and soft skills courses. Students acquire an advanced research competence in Informatics. The programme encourages and enables students to work independently according to high academic standards. Furthermore, students develop an understanding of an exemplary application area, with the corresponding terminology and way of thinking, and thereby acquire interdisciplinary competence. The programme qualifies graduates to participate in a PhD programme, for leading software development projects, and for executive positions in business and management. Graduates can work in research and application in all phases of Software Engineering, from specification, design and analysis to development, implementation, and proof of correctness.
