Program Overview

This research and professionally-oriented Master’s programme studies the use of physical activity in the areas of prevention and rehabilitation. Clinical Exercise Science differentiates between clinical applications for patients and the uses of physical activity in professional and popular sports. During the Master’s and doctoral programme in Clinical Exercise Science, you will be studying the effects of physical activity in the prevention and rehabilitation of illnesses. The focus is on medical training therapy (clinical applications) and high performance physiology (usage in health, popular, and professional sports). Besides these theoretical, methodological, and experimental fundamentals, the programme also includes professionally-oriented segments. These are offered in cooperation with hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, and outpatient rehabilitation centres. Other opportunities include the medical supervision of athletes at Olympic training facilities and tutoring and mentoring work. With the demands of a professional work environment in mind, you will gain crucial skills for pursuing managerial and scholarly professions alike. The goal of the Master’s degree in Clinical Exercise Science is an interdisciplinary, scientific, and career-oriented cooperation with different professions in the health sciences. The goal of a doctorate in Clinical Exercise Science is to prepare you for a career in research and teaching.

Salary Outlook

Typical range

The stated annual salary (e.g., TV-L E13: €50,000–€65,000 for 100%) refers to a full-time position. In practice, many universities and public research institutes (such as Leibniz institutes) offer part-time contracts, commonly 50%, 65%, or 75%, and only occasionally 100%. The actual salary is therefore proportional to the contract percentage. Applicants are strongly advised to clarify the employment percentage before accepting an offer.

Fresher, mid-level, and experienced ranges are linked to external sources so they stay auditable for applicants.
